Pakistan, Italy sign clean water MoU for KP

Pakistan and Italy have signed an agreement on Wash projects for provision of clean and quality drinking water for southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) under RAHA through Pakistan Italian Debt Swap Agreement (PIDSA).

The agreement was signed by Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Lt. Gen (R) Abdul Qadir Baloch and Italian Ambassador in Pakistan Stefano Pontecorvo, said a press release issued here on Thursday.

Over 200 schools lack clean drinking water facility

Over 200 primary, middle and secondary schools in Rawalpindi Division lack the facility of clean drinking water.

According to documents, Punjab Education Department has sought details of all the schools functioning in Rawalpindi Division. According to sources, the funds in the budget have been allocated to supply clean drinking water to the schools, however, the authorities have failed to enforce and utilize the funds. The schools are located in seven tehsils including Kotli Sattain, Murree, Kahuta, Kalar Syedain, Taxila, Gujar Khan and Rawalpindi.

Entrepreneurs bringing clean water to poor communities

WITH 16 million people lacking access to clean drinking water in Pakistan and 84% of the rural population not treating their drinking water, the country is in great need of innovative solutions to improve access and sanitation. A World Resources Institute report found that by 2040, the situation could become even worse, with Pakistan potentially becoming the most water stressed in the region and 23rd most stressed in the world.

Red Crescent brings clean water to villagers’ doorsteps in Pakistan

For Gul Bibi and the other residents of Chittabatta and Gulhatra Villages in Mansehra District, clean water has always been a luxury. All her life, Gul Bibi had to walk for hours to reach the mountain top spring far from her village, just to get a pitcher of drinking water. Now, she gazes contentedly at the many containers sitting in her courtyard, filled with clean water. The rehabilitation of two water supply schemes, has meant that about 2,800 people in these villages now receive clean water at their doorsteps.

Punjab Spending Billions on Clean Drinking Water: Shehbaz

Lahore—Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Saaf Pani Project is of paramount importance and Punjab government is spending billions of rupees on provision of clean drinking water to the citizens.

He was presiding over a high-level meeting, here on Sunday in which progress on various matters regarding the project were reviewed. Chief Executive Officer Saaf Pani Company gave a detailed briefing regarding the project.

Islamabad: As the world celebrates World Water Day today (March 22), Pakistan is ranked 10th among the top 10 countries with regard to the numbers of people living without access to safe water. According to WaterAid’s report titled ‘Water: At What Cost? The State of the World’s Water 2016,’ there are 16.096 million people living without access to safe water in Pakistan.
