When scarcity strikes

Water is a basic necessity of life. Since access to water has been recognized as a human right, the obligation to provide clean and safe drinking water across the globe has fallen on various government agencies.

However, over one billion people across the globe do not have access to basic water supplies. Nearly half of the developing world’s population suffers from an assortment of diseases because water supply remains contaminated.

Senate body concerned over food security, water scarcity

Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change on Thursday expressed serious concern over the threat to food security and scarcity of water in the future from impacts of global warming. The committee was met under the chairmanship of Senator Mir Muhammad Yousaf Badini, while Senator Sitara Ayaz, Muhammad Ali Khan Saif, Nuzhat Sadiq, Saleem Zia, Samina Abid and Mushahid Hussaain Syed also attended the committee.

Dire need to recycle waste water in Pakistan

KARACHI:
In a country like Pakistan where millions are deprived of the basic necessity of water, there is a dire need for adopting the culture of conservation and recycling of waste water, said International Union for Conservation of Nature country representative Mahmood A Cheema.

He said this at a seminar, titled ‘Why Waste Your Wastewater’, organised by Barrett Hodgson University (BHU) on Wednesday. The event was held at the university’s Salim Habib campus on the occasion of World Water Day, which is observed across the globe on March 22.
