Nearly 100 villages flooded in Sialkot, Zafarwal after India release water

SIALKOT (Dunya News) – Nearly a hundred villages in Zafarwal and Sialkot region are water-logged after India lifted gates to flood Nullah Dek leading to rising water-level in River Chenab, reported Monday.

Land connection to around 50 villages in Bijwat area is suspended while several rural localities in Zafarwal are inundated. Crops grown on hundreds of acres of land have been spoiled while a dyke was breached in Mozah Mangwal.

India out to damage Pakistan’s water interests on Kabul river

ISLAMABAD: Afghanistan’s authorities with the help of Indian experts have completed the feasibilities and detailed engineering of 12 hydro-power projects with capacity to generate 1,177MW of electricity to be built on the river Kabul.

If the 12 projects get completed, they will store 4.7 million acre feet of water squeezing the flow in the river reaching Pakistan.

UNESCO, PCRWR and PMD Jointly Organized a Two-Day International Workshop

To improve and strengthen the flood early warning system and management capacity of Pakistan, UNESCO with financial assistance from the Government of Japan is collaborating with Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) and a number of other Pakistan partners and Japan organizations, UNESCO category II Center ICHARM and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
