It was a great experience for me to visit the slum areas of Islamabad for field survey where people spend their lives hands to mouth. It was pleasant to see smile on the faces of innocent people who assumed that we had come for some help, to solve their problems of water availability and waste disposal by conducting survey for concerned authority. With this hope, they all gathered at once at a specified place to enlist their names. They were happy when we took some pictures of their family and houses.
It was the virtue of that survey that propelled me to ask myself that are these people also a part of our country’s capital Islamabad? If yes, then why cannot they live like us? But I satisfied myself that it is not an end, Insha Allah in the near future the results of our survey will produce some valuable outcomes. One desperation thing that I observed is that at a certain distance, there are large bangalows and their residents are living a contented life without acknowledging the problems of innocent people of Mehrabadi and Bheka Saiyidaan. The resident of Golra were a bit satisfied with their water supply and sanitation situations as they have access to drinking water through their own water boring systems . One problem that they faced was the lack of solid waste management. The survey was very productive and informative as it made me think from a new angle and observe the situation of poor people who are living a very difficult life.
