Karachi—There is a need of water reservoirs and dams in the country to meet our future needs and to save water for future survival.
This was stated by Chairman The Consumers Eye Pakistan (TCEP), Umar Ghauri while leading ‘Water Awareness Walk’ from Zainab Market Saddar to Karachi Press Club on occasion of the World Water Day 2016, This year’s theme is: Water and jobs. The walk was jointly organized by The Consumers Eye Pakistan-TCEP and Consumer Voice Pakistan, said a statement on Tuesday.
He said that International World Water Day tries to remind people about the significance of freshwater and to promote sustainability for freshwater resources’ management.
It’s a day to prepare for how we manage water in future as each year World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater, he added.
Umar Ghauri further said that World Water Day means focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
The United Nations’ (UN) World Water Day is held on March 22 each year since 1993 to increase people’s awareness of water’s importance in environment, agriculture, health and trade.
After concluding of walk at Karachi Press Club, Umar Ghauri while talking to media said our water resources are of such a great importance because water itself is responsible for so many things in life that it would be absolutely impossible to continue without it.
The Chairman TCEP warns that water is something that everyone takes for granted. Defining about the importance of water, President Consumer Voice, Rasim Khan said water is a powerful resource that we cannot afford to live without, so we must do everything possible to maintain its quality and the life inside it for today and the future.
He appreciated the efforts of Umar Ghauri and assured him full cooperation for Consumer rights Protection. Secretary USF Consults-Research Group Engr Sultan Ahmed said World Water Day is an annual occasion for celebration and solidarity within the international community.
In Awareness Walk President TCEP Syed Iqbal Shahab and Secretary National Citizen Forum-NCF M Shafiq also participated along with volunteer students of Karachi University.
