World Water Day is observed on 22nd March every year. It is focused to remind people about importance of fresh water and to encourage efficient management to sustainable water resources. It is a day to celebrate water. It is a day to plan for efficient management of fresh water for the people. The theme for 2016 is "Water and Jobs - Empowering Young Professionals". To investigate and assess to current water stressed scenario and the major threats to sustainable fresh water development and management in Pakistan, World Water Day was organized on 22nd March, 2016 at Karakarum International University, Gilgit. The event was a joint venture of Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), Government of Gilgit - Baltistan, PARC, KIU, ICIMOD, UNDP, AKRSP, WWF, Local Communities and Mountain Areas Farmers Support Organization. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Chairman, PCRWR, delivered a key note address during the Inaugural Session on "Importance of water in the light of Quran & Sunnah". He also talked in expert panel discussion specifically on irrigation water management. PCRWR stall displaying publications and products was attractive for the audience during the event.
