Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PHMA) has flayed an 81 percent increase in water tariff for industrial consumers made by KWSB. “It is not at all justified and will definitely cause a rise in cost of doing business,” chairman PHMA Saleem Parekh said.
In a letter to Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah, he said the government was well aware of “the severe economic crisis and burden on the industries.” Moreover the export-oriented value added sector is battling hard for its survival in the face of stiff competition from neighbouring and other competing countries in the international market.
The industry has been shaken and greatly perturbed at the sudden, most exorbitant and unprecedented increase in water tariff. Upto end of 2007 the water tariff for industrial consumers was Rs 73. From July 2008 the water tariff was increased to Rs 80, by June 2009 to Rs 100, by March 2010 to Rs 109 and by September 2010 to Rs 119.
